2025 YAL
I’m doing the Stephen West Yarn-A-Long again this year. I always tell myself I’m not going to, and then he shares the mood board and theme and I can’t resist.
For those new to this, a Yarn-A-Long is a three month subscription. Each month you get a box of yarn dyed specifically for the surprise pattern. You don’t know colors or patterns ahead of time, you just get hints and mood boards.
This years theme is Camp Craft and the focus is on new techniques. I canNOT wait. We usually get the yarn about a month before the pattern, so box one should arrive soon. There is absolutely zero pressure to keep up, or even use the yarn for that pattern. Creativity and changing it up is encouraged.
Last year, I was able to keep pace with the monthly boxes, but my knitting place has slowed down quite a bit now that I’ve got a job and a very mischievous puppy. I also need to organize my leftovers from last year and make sure I have space to wind my yarn.

Achievement Badge Shawl
First Shawl complete! Made with a new Stephen West Yarn base that’s part wool, part linen. The yarn was a joy to knit with. I learned lots of new techniques with this shawl, my least favorite being the Latvian Braid. Incredibly fussy, but looks amazing. This pattern was also another reminder that I really need to trust my instincts, go slowly, and have patience. I thought I was off on the dip stitches, but couldn’t figure out my stitch count. And I was off on the dip stitches, but could easily have adjusted regardless of the number of stitches on my needle. Choosing my own color combos is very intimidating to me, so I always appreciate it when that work is already done. I adore this combo. Feels very scandinavian even though this is definitely a summer weight yarn.

Camp Craft Shawl
I think I’m gonna skip this one and make a sweater with the yarn instead. The shawl is just…not that interesting to me and I can tell its the kind of pattern that will absolutely drive me up the wall. Last fall I realized I’d knit a ton and didn’t have any chill cozy sweaters for the cooler weather, so I think I’ll use the yarn for the Painted Pullover by Caitlin Hunter.
