Let’s not un-complicate it: an ode to my sock drawer

I have so many different categories of socks. Whenever I do laundry I ask myself if there’s anyway to simplify it, but I’ve decided to let that go and lean in to my insane sock drawer. In particular, I like nice socks for any kind of sustained physical activity. I have very small feet, so one-size socks bunch up and cause problems. So I have running socks, and hiking socks in size small. Then I have cozy socks, both sized for my feet and also big loose cozy ones from target.

Occasionally I sacrifice an old sock to Big Leo because it makes him so happy.

In addition to small socks, I have an abundance of casual, generic socks of varying cuts and fun prints. Designed to be invisible in different shoe styles. You know who does socks right? Japan. The US is finally catching up, but the nice ones are really expensive. Japan has SO MANY high quality socks, all different styles, and for a very good price. So if you ever go, plan on bringing back a suitcase full for your friends with small to medium sized feet.

My favorite brands of nice socks:

  • Feetures for running

  • Darn Tough for hiking and any wool sock needs

  • Smartwool

  • Any socks from Japan. Seriously. Go just for the socks. I regret not buying socks the last time I was there.
